Back in April, a reference to Jurgen Ziewe’s Elysium Unveiled caught my attention. A quick search led me to a video showcasing a few pages, which I promptly reviewed on my “Soulful Videos” blog (see: Pictures from heaven for a quick peek at the book). Inspired, I ordered the book that very day. While awaiting its arrival—a three-month journey involving three different suppliers—I delved into Ziewe’s other works: Vistas of Infinity, Multidimensional Man, and The Ten Minute Moment. Now, in July, I am thrilled to finally immerse myself in this truly groundbreaking book.

Visions Beyond the Veil: A Journey Through the Subconscious Mind

Shakuntala Modi’s “Memories of God and Creation” delves into subconscious recollections from patients under hypnosis, revealing vivid accounts of pre-birth existence, divine presence, and cosmic origins. While offering profound spiritual insights, the book also highlights how different authors interpret such deep metaphysical information based on their unique experiences, inviting readers to explore a truly distinct worldview.

When I first heard about this book, I thought, great — another hypnotherapist with information about the afterlife. I expected it to align with other hypnotherapists like the well-known works of Michael Newton. But I found the content surprisingly different. That’s not to say one author is right and the other wrong — rather, it shows that different practitioners receive information filtered through their own perspectives and life experiences.

Dying to Live: A Skeptic’s Case Against NDEs — and Why I’m Still Not Convinced

Susan Blackmore’s Dying to Live argues that NDEs are hallucinations, not glimpses of an afterlife. Reading it helped me test my beliefs against a thorough skeptic’s case. While I appreciate her analysis, I still find the evidence for NDEs compelling — and believe we should stay open to what we don’t yet understand.

Susan Blackmore, a psychologist and former parapsychologist, explores near-death experiences (NDEs) through the lens of neuroscience, psychology, and biology rather than the supernatural. She argues that NDEs—commonly described as tunnels, bright lights, out-of-body experiences, and life reviews—are hallucinations produced by a distressed brain, not glimpses of an afterlife.

Reading Dying to Live was a valuable exercise. It helped me examine the skeptics’ point of view and test my own assumptions. Was I just blindly following the typical NDE narrative? Could the opposing perspective be more logical? In the end, I concluded that my beliefs still held up — but it was good to put them under scrutiny.

More Real Than Reality: How Steve Miller’s NDE Book Surprised This Seasoned Reader

J. Steve Miller’s “Near-Death Experiences” exceeded my expectations, offering fresh perspectives on NDEs. It brilliantly challenges common dismissals, highlighting how NDEs differ from dreams and feel “more real than reality.” Miller’s skeptical yet open-minded approach, backed by thorough research, builds a compelling case, making it a must-read for anyone curious about the afterlife.

A clear, thoughtful introduction to a fascinating subject — with a few surprises along the way.

When I first picked up Near-Death Experiences As Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven by Steve Miller, I expected a simple, beginner-friendly overview. After all, the subtitle promises “A Brief Introduction in Plain Language.” As someone already familiar with NDEs, I didn’t expect to learn much — but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is this book easy to understand, it also introduced me to some fresh perspectives I hadn’t considered before.
